What if the library doesn't have the book I need?

Answer

If the library doesn't have a book you need, you can often get a copy through CSU+ or through Interlibrary Loan.

CSU+

CSU+ provides fast access to books from other CSU libraries. CSU+ is:

  • free for Fresno State students, faculty, and staff.
  • quick. Items arrive in 2-4 business days.
  • convenient. You request your items online, and we notify you by email when they are ready for pickup.
  • extensive. Books from all 23 CSU libraries are available in CSU+

To search CSU+, start at the library homepage and search in OneSearch for the book you need. From the results screen, if the book doesn't appear, you can either:

  • Use the dropdown menu by the search box to change the search scope to "CSU+ Books & Articles," or
  • Choose the link at top left for "All CSU Libraries (CSU+)."

If the book is available through CSU+, it should appear in the results with a link that says "Request this item from other libraries." Choose the link and you should see "Get It" buttons with options for requesting the book from another library.

  • "Get a physical copy" will place a request for the book to be sent to Fresno State. You'll receive an email when it is ready to be picked up.
  • "Need a chapter?" will let you request a scan of a single chapter, if you don't need to read the whole book. You'll get an email when the scan is ready to download.

Interlibrary Loan

If your book is unavailable through CSU+, you can try requesting it from another library through Interlibrary Loan.

  • Login to Interlibrary Loan with your Fresno State user name and password. The link can be found on the library homepage.
  • Choose "New Requests => Book" and fill in the form with as much information as you have.
