Q. Can I check out books and other materials?

Online Access

Currently we provide access to thousands of ebooks via our OneSearch on the library homepage. Once you search your topic, you can filter your search results to "Full-text online" (see below) to see what eBooks are available from our collections.

If you have any trouble finding them or accessing them, please email librarians@humboldt.edu.

You can also make a request for articles and chapters from books through InterLibrary Loan (ILL). To learn more, see the ILL FAQ.

In addition, there are over 6.7 Million free ebooks available from the Hathi Trust Digital Library: www.hathitrust.org.

Physical Access

The Library Building will be closed through Spring 2021, however, current HSU students, faculty, and staff, can request library resources essential to their work and studies.

Place your request directly through our online catalog (OneSearch) or InterLibrary Loan (ILL).

[Note: the Request This! option will temporarily be disabled as the Library installs sprinklers. You can still order books and other items through ILL and CSU+. Expect these requests to take a few weeks to arrive. Ask Us about other options for meeting your needs while the construction is underway. Request This! will be available again in March 2021.]

To place a request through OneSearch, sign in (upper right-hand corner of the screen), then place the request by choosing the "Request This!" button in the record for the title. Next, you're asked to enter your current mailing address. The book will then be checked out to you and mailed to that location.

Humboldt County Library

Check the Humboldt County Library for options. As of this posting they are offering curbside pickup of physical items as well as online access.

Requests From Other Libraries (ILL)

HSU Library can still acquire articles, books chapters, and books for you. Please see the question about InterLibrary Loan for details.
