How can I tell if an article is peer reviewed?

Peer-reviewed articles are found within academic journals, and are the most credible and authoritative resource to use for college papers and projects. Peer review articles are scholarly articles that have been through a rigorous review process to ensure the information they provide is accurate.

Most databases will allow you to limit your search to just peer-reviewed articles. It is important to also know some of the identifying features of a peer-reviewed/scholarly article. Most will include:

1. Author and journal information

2. Abstract

3. Introduction

4. Literature Review

5. Methods

6. Results and Discussion

7. Conclusion

8. References  (usually a long list!)

If you have any concerns about whether or not an article is peer-reviewed, contact a librarian for help.
