I need to find a kind of childrens book called a "chapter book". What is it and how can I find them

Answer

Unlike some other types of children's books, we have no filter in our search devices that will limit to just the chapter books.  Wikipedia defines Chapter Books:

A chapter book is a story book intended for intermediate readers, generally age 7-10. Unlike picture books for younger readers, a chapter book tells the story primarily through prose, rather than pictures. Unlike books for older readers, chapter books contain plentiful illustrations. The name refers to the fact that the stories are usually divided into short chapters, which provide children with opportunities to stop and resume reading if their attention spans are not long enough to finish the book in one sitting. Chapter books are usually works of fiction of moderate length and complexity.

Here are two things you can do to find chapter books:

1.  Go to the Juvenile collection on the third floor and look at the books with the call number PZ7 and examine them to see if any of them meet the definition above.  We have over 5,000 books under this call number, so you should be able to find some.

2. The chapter books listed below are Scholastic.com recommendations. Click on a title to see book information and library location. Note that these are an extremely small sampling of our chapter books.
