The ebook I was using has disappeared. What happened? What can I do?

Answer

Publishers have the right to pull the electronic edition of a book at any time. This isn't a frequent occurrence but it does happen.

If you can't find an ebook you have recently used it's likely you were using a book in the Safari Books Online collection (now called O'Reilly Online Learning). The Safari ebook collection is centrally funded by the CSU for all CSU library users. Ebooks are added to and deleted from the collection on a regular basis. Books are dropped from our Safari collection after about four years. We have no local control over the contents of this collection. We make every effort to keep this collection up-to-date but as we do not receive any notice before the books are dropped, it's possible you'll find dead links in Safari ebook records.

If the ebook you were using has disappeared, you can:

1) Search OneSearch for other ebooks on your topic. This is the best option as we have ebooks from several vendors and a Catalog search will find them all.

2) Search Safari Books Online (now called O'Reilly Online Learning) for more on your topic.

If you need the ebook that disappeared, let us know. If the ebook is available for purchase and if we have the funds we can purchase it for our collection. Use our online Suggestion for Purchase form or contact the Subject Librarian for your department.
